Yay! Last place!

Posted on Mar 18th, 2007 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
haha - in my first (of a handful) of road races this year, i came in dead last! hahaha..

Raced in the A cat for the first time, hung in for several laps (of 20 on a hilly course), but this is sooo different from what i do on the track, the hills and corners slaughter me..

Full report on the blog!

Pic on there of me suffering up the hill..hahaha

Springing Along

Posted on Mar 5th, 2007 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
Hey Zaadzsters!

I've been enjoying the nicer weather, and getting plenty of hours of riding in! Feeling pretty solid, i think i'm starting to get the hang of this training thing.. Track starts in a month, and i'm eager to get started!

The OA Victoria chapter is nearly official, just need to complete some paperwork - i'm very excited about this!

This is about all off the top of my head, have a great day! =)

It's 2007!

Howdy howdy!

New year, new Zaadz blog entry! Training has been going very well, my main focus it to build up stronger legs right now, so lots of slow-cadence muscle-tension workouts (i'm not doing legs at the gym!) - and so far as good! My legs are definitely getting bigger (been taking some measurements), and i feel stronger, tho i have no speed/intensity in me right now, which is prolly about right!

Got a PowerTap power meter a few weeks ago too, and it is an AMAZING training tool..holy crap, it can tell you so much!

That's about it for now, don't forget about my 'regular' blog!

Peas out!

2006 Results

Posted on Sep 25th, 2006 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
Quick note on my times at the track... By the end of the last night, i had gotten all new PB's.

* Flying 200m - finally cracked 13 seconds, getting a 12.95 (PB was 13.22)

* 500m - finally cracked 40 seconds with a 39.9 (previous PB was 40.29)

* 4km Pursuit - as mentioned earlier, got a 5:22 (taking 15 seconds off previous PB)

So, it was a good year for racing.  =)

Not sure what my goals will be for 2007...over the winter i think i'm going to skip leg workouts at the gym, and depend soley on riding for training. Let's see how it goes....

Bikes'n'Tunes

Posted on Sep 10th, 2006 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
Raced at the BC Track Provincials a couple weeks ago (blog write-up and pics here) - i really surprised myself with a kick-ass ride in the 4km Pursuit, taking a whopping 15 seconds off my previous PB, riding a 5:22..!!  Very exciting, as getting under a 5:30 was one of my primary goals for the year..  Now, the time is in a little doubt, since i wasn't expecting to ride nearly that fast....i half suspect that the officials missed a lap (ie 19 laps instead of 20) but since it was signed by a commisary, i'll take it!

Other than that, my race season is pretty much over...time to chill a bit! My body is feeling really worn out and drained....so i'll be spending a little less time on the bike, and hitting the gym, warming up my tendons and ligaments at the gym. Next big event is in November, but i'm not really planning on training for it, planning to race for fun mainly.
I've also started the Dave Noisy Music Review blog, where i review albums - fun stuff!

Some Stuff

Posted on Aug 15th, 2006 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
Two late nite items.

First, a quote:

"I didn't believe in reincarnation in any of my other lives. I don't see why I should have to believe in it in this one." -- Strange de Jim

Second, a graph listing countries by the percentage of population that believes in evolution:

No surprise the US is second-to-last...just ahead of Turkey. Oddly, Canada is not included.

After Going Down, You Must Go Up?

Posted on Aug 6th, 2006 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave
So, after a crummy week, i had my best week! (And now another crummy week..heh..)

Had a great points race a couple weeks ago, then performed well in the points race at Trackfest, scooping 3rd (also got 2nd in the Keirin, but there were only four starters, and the winner was DQ'd..heh..) Also finally got a PB in the 4km Pursuit and Sidney TT. Yip!!

Trick there was to push HARD AS HELL and dig REAL deep. It hurt, but it got results.

The last week i've had a nasty cold of some type....didn't ride my bike from Sun thru Thu...tho when i got back on Thu, it felt *so good*. Me likey the bikey.

Cold is almost done..still a bit of couging and head is stuffy, but otherwise good.

Moved last Sunday as well, now living in Chez Shish - a nice bach. suite in the basement of a house, a few blocks from where i was. Overall it's great, but my landlord is very over-bearing and seemingly unaware...like on the night i moved in, she insisted on me giving her 12 post-dated checks. Right then. This is after a day of moving and cleaning...  I tell her 'my checkbook is in a box..i have no idea where, can we wait until tomorrow?' - she responds in the negative. Today i'm woken up before 7:30am by 'swish', 'swish', 'swish'.....she's raking the leave on the concrete just outside my window.

WTF?? She wakes me up (again) at 9:50am (i'm sick and trying to sleep damnit) telling me that she's not sure if me living here is a 'good idea' because of our schedules. (By that she means her degree of sanity, and i'd suspect lack of control i'm allowing her to exert on me.)

Which of course makes no sense, i'm normally up by 8am, and i haven't complained about noise until this morning (and who wouldn't.) Sheesh..  So i'll see what her terms are. This really sucks, because other than dealing with her, i really like the place and location. Maybe i can go all Residential Tenency on her ass or something...haha..

Other than that, life is pretty swell! =)

Sumfin..

Posted on Jul 20th, 2006 by Dave : Minister of Chaos Dave

I'm just writing sumfin.

Say that with a cockney accent..sumfin. Dat's sumfin, a'ight?

I made brownies, and had one an hour ago, and i'm not sleepy, tho i should be.

Life is good..work has been great, really focusing on taking down the horse-drawn carriages in Victoria...seems like there's a good chance i'll be able to get a bylaw passed to ban them, woot! Digging up lotsa dirt on them too....

Racing has been good too....tho i'm kinda confused.. My times haven't really been improving much. Looking back a year, i was getting similar times in the same events (i do a weekly 18km time trial, as well as 4km pursuits on the track..) I realize i'm in the 'middle' of my training program, so i'm usually tired when doing these events (thus a slower time), but i would have expected improved times overall...i'm not *always* tired...hmmmm...

I'm guessing this is the result of replacing proper training with racing...

Funny thing is i'm much stronger in bunch races and in group rides...not nearly as hard for me to keep up, and even challenge other folks..so i guess *something* is better...just not my timed events.. Ahh well, we'll see how it progresses through the summer. If gains aren't made in the next month, then i'll know that i'll need to play my cards much differently next year.

Also, if you don't check it regularly, racing stories and pics on my blog, check it:

Big(ish) local race event this weekend..wish me luck!
